Safety Glasses Prescription

Our eyes are the windows to the world. As amazing and wonderful as the world is sometimes it can be too bright and blinding. Other times there are factors out there that could damage our eyes. So what good is a window if it is stained or even worse damaged? Thankfully the world invented glasses, particularly safety prescription glasses to protect our eyes.

Safety prescription glasses are used by people around the world most especially for their jobs like those dealing with lasers, chemicals or industrial jobs. Although these work places are required to wear either goggles or safety glasses most would prefer safety glasses because they are more comfortable with it.  So how do we choose these safety prescription glasses?

Keep in mind that your regular prescription glasses are not considered safety glasses if it doesn’t meet certain criteria given by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). One of the tests to pass ANSI’s criteria is the impact tests and it is done by testing the lens and the frame separately. The safety glasses will pass if they will not break, crack or chip. You’ll see certain marks which represents the ratings for safety glasses. A plus mark will tell you that the lens has passed a high velocity test meaning it is approved for high impact. “S” marks mean the lenses have special tints and “V” marks mean the lenses are photo chromic. Safety prescription glasses with thinner lenses are also accepted as long as they meet ANSI’s criteria.

Safety prescription glasses can be chosen according to your taste. Nowadays they come in different frames which are a little larger than eyeglass frames. The colors for the frames are practical colors suiting your taste or your job and in addition some of the frames are not made out of plastic material. The side shields on the frames can be popped off so that shield won’t hinder your peripheral vision. Scratch resistant lenses are also necessary. It’s true that these are a little expensive but chances of eye stains are zero to none. Having scratches on the lenses will force you to replace them as soon as possible so choosing scratch resistant lenses will let you save more. Safety prescription glasses should have the permanent mark of “Z87-2” (Z87 is a mark for basic impact).

It may be expensive but at least these safety prescription glasses will save you from possible visual damages that could change your life forever.
